BAU2009

The 9th edition of the annual congress of the Belgian Association of Urology, which took place at the Brabanthal in Leuven on 11 and 12 December 2009, was once again an outstanding success. The congress, spread over 1,5 days attracted almost 600 participants from 13 different countries, equally spread among urologists and exhibitors.

In this year’s edition, a state of the art in Urology was given, divided into the following sessions: “Endoscopy, laparoscopy & robotics”, “The management of bladder cancer”, “Functional urology”, “Paediatric urology”, “Minimal invasive therapies” and “Oncologic urology”. Nationally and internationally renowned speakers presented the most recent findings in their field of expertise and all this was moderated by top experts.

The social programme on Friday evening started with a drink at the City Hall, where the participants were welcomed by Mayor Louis Tobback. After this drink, the Faculty club was the décor for a splendid evening, with top-notch cuisine and lots of ambiance. All this offered the excellent occasion for keeping the contacts with colleagues in a casual setting.

We would like to thank all the participants for their contribution to the success of BAU 2009 and hope that it has been a valuable educational and social experience for each of you. We particularly acknowledge the industry sponsors for facilitating this excellent meeting. Special thanks go to the European School of Urology for their substantial support. Also thanks to all the speakers for bringing the high level presentations and the chairmen of the sessions for the moderation. Parallel to the BAU congress on Friday, the Urobel congress took place, with as subject “Majeure ingrepen aan de blaas”. Thanks to the participants, the speakers and the sponsors for the success of this event.
